Brethren Volunteer Service
Brethren Volunteer Service is persons giving their time and skills to help a world in need. It is a way for people to work at issues greater than themselves, recognizing that their efforts may not immediately solve deep-rooted problems, but can be part of on-going work for justice, peace, and the integrity of creation. Volunteers receive room, board, medical insurance, transportation to project and a monthly allowance of $60-$80. Volunteers may live in a group situation, an apartment, or with a family. (In most cases, educational loans may be deferred.)

Claretian Volunteers are men and women who serve one to two years in the US in Atlanta, Georgia, Chicago and Oak Park, Illinois,Springfield, Missouri, or Perth Amboy, New Jersey. We strive to live the values of the gospel, emphasizing ministry, community and spirituality. We minister with creativity and flexibility to a varied population with an emphasis on serving the poor and oppressed. Disciples Peace Fellowship
Disciples Peace Fellowship seeks young adults age 21 and older to travel the country this summer (2005). If you have an interest in pursuing and teaching peace and working for justice, then this is the internship for you! You'll earn approximately $2,000 for the summer, plus most expenses. Room and board are provided by each region. Interns are expected to complete a written report/evaluation at the conclusion of the summer. The internship lasts from the end of May to the middle of August. More importantly, you will be rewarded by the hundreds of contacts you will make with the youth of our church by working in CYF camps all over the United States.

Episcopal Campus Ministry at Washington University

A one-year, renewable internship with as assistant chaplain. This 40-hr. a week internship pays $1,000 a month plus benefits. Housing is provided by an area Episcopal parishioner. Job description will be negotiated based on community needs, intern's gifts and areas the intern wishes to explore. Applications are accepted for students right out of undergraduate programs and from those who have been out awhile. Membership in the Episcopal Church is not required.

Episcopal Urban Intern Program
The Episcopal Urban Intern Program, founded in 1991, recruits young adults from across the country to work full-time in a social service agency, live together in Christian Community, and develop in their spiritual lives. The program is designed for persons interested in discerning their vocational goals, ordained or lay, or for those simply seeking to give a year of service to others. The program is housed at Holy Faith Church, a bilingual, multicultural congregation in Los Angeles.

Gethsemane Mission Year
Gethsemane Mission Year is a yearlong young adult discipleship opportunity supported by National City Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The focus is on knowing God and responding to God through service to others, community life, a willingness to live simply, and a dedication to spiritual growth. Service is 40 hours per week of direct social work with local social service agencies.Benefits include free housing, food allowance, health insurance, personal stipend, local transportation allowance, student loans deferred and AmeriCorps Education Award of $4,725. Home Mission Intern


The Office of Disciples Volunteering in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) offers a phenomenal experience for Disciples and UCC leaders wanting to work with church groups from all over the country anywhere from Yakama Reservation in Washington to Los Angeles, California to Alderson, West Virginia. Week of Compassion Homeland Mission Interns act as liaisons to the local community while they teach visiting church groups connections between justice issues at their home church and their visiting site. A chance to learn about construction, economic justice, a different culture, and to have fun! With a modest stipend and an Americorps grant, there is a total award of $3,000.00.

Industrial Areas Foundation
IAF East is seeking women and men from colleges, graduate programs, seminaries, business and law schools, the military, and other professions who are interested in exploring careers in organizing during summer 2005. IAF-East will provide a stipend to those participants who are not supported by other institutions will assist those participants who do not live in either of the internship areas in finding low-cost and (if extremely fortunate) no-cost lodging. These accommodations – in convents, seminaries, or rectories -- tend to be modest. IAF-East will cover the costs of travel once the participant is placed in a city and organization. will provide an intensive orientation training of approximately three days at the start of the internship, will assign a senior organizer to mentor and supervise the work of the intern, and will evaluate regularly with the participant as the internship unfolds. Each organization is independent and non-partisan, engaged on a wide range of issues, and led by a strategy team of religious, lay, and community leaders. Lutheran Volunteer Corps
Living peacefully with one another is a lifelong challenge. In LVC communities of 4 to 7, volunteers share meals, household responsibilities, daily struggles, faith discussions, and good times. Micah Project


"What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to have mercy and to walk humbly with God?" (Micah 6:8). The Micah Project invites young adults to ask themselves this question during a nine-month internship of service, Christian community, and discernment. Working in an urban parish, college or hospital chaplaincy, or peach and justice program, young adults discern God's call to them. With the support and discipline of an intentional Christian community, participants will explore their gifts of leadership and refine their understanding of their spiritual life.

New York Internship Program


Sponsored by St.Mary's Episcopal Church in West Harlem, the New York Program (NYIP) is a service-learning internship year for young adults. Beginning in the fall of 2003, 4-6 interns will gather to engage in the work of (1) community based social service, (2) simple and intentional living and (3) theological reflection and spiritual growth. The interns will be housed at St.Mary's, where they will live together as a community and participate in the worship life of the congregation. Both individually and as a group they will meet regularly for the theological reflection with MYIP Director. Five times during the course of the year they will participate in retreats to reflect on their community life, work, and spiritual growth. The NYIP experience allows interns to be transformed by the lives of others while making a difference in the struggle for justice, dignity, and human rights. The interns' daily life and work is expected to expose them to the complexities of systemic injustice, while also empowering them to find creative faith-filled solutions to inequality and oppression in the world.

Pathways to Ministry
Pathways to Ministry is a comprehensive ministry of Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas, Texas. The ten-month Intern Program is for recent college graduates who are seriously considering Episcopal ordained ministry. The intern generally works within a different aspect of the ministry each month, meets regularly with a specially assigned lay committee for support and discussion and with a spiritual director. The Pathways Intern works on mutually agreed upon projects, attends weekly Bible studies, is given teach and preaching opportunities, and is fully involved in serving at the various Sunday services.

Project Transformation - Dallas,TX
Project Transformation is a grassroots, faith-based nonprofit based in Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas whose mission is to connect the energy of young adults, the strength of church-supported institutions, and the untapped resources of urban neighborhoods with the evolving needs of urban children and youth. The Project Transformation summer program is for Christian young people who have completed at least their freshman year of college and are seeking a summer of service in Dallas, Texas. The young adults will grow in their faith journey and explore ministry opportunities. The summer service experience is hands-on with the young people working in teams and connecting children from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds with many adult volunteers; therefore, strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and motivation are important. For summer: $2,475 living stipend- paycheck, $1,250 education voucher (issued by AmeriCorps after completed term of service and available to be used during/after the spring semester following the summer of service), and room and board. The Project also offers full-year internships, both part-time and full-time. All interns live in community.

Project Transformation - University of Virginia
Project Transformation, sponsored by the Wesley Foundation at UVA, offers a nine week program in central Virginia designed to offer hands on ministry experience to college students interested in full time lay or ordained ministry. Interns will work closely with children in a day camp setting and will have regular group time focused on vocation. This is a paid internship and includes room and most board.

Project Transformation – Oklahoma

An urban ministry with sites in the North and South Oklahoma City and Tulsa Districts of the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Project Transformation’s summer internship is for Christian young people who have completed at least one year of college and are seeking to serve in several urban communities of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Through Project Transformation, college students will grow in their faith journey and explore ministry opportunities. The interns will be working in teams and connecting children from diverse cultural social, and economic backgrounds with many adult volunteers; therefore, strong interpersonal skills are important. each intern will receive an educational voucher and a living stipend. Interns will receive a stipend.

Resurrection House
Resurrection House is an academic year internship for recent college graduates emphasizing vocational discernment, hands on ministry and community living. Three or four participants are annually selected to live in Christian community in a rehabilitate church vicarage on the grounds of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Omaha, NE. The program includes 20 hours a week doing church ministry in a local Episcopal Church, 10 hours a week doing outreach ministry in an urban setting and 10 hours per week of community worship, spiritual direction, etc.

Servant Year
Servant Year is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The purpose of Servant Year is to seek young women and men who have completed at least one year of college to explore urban ministry.

Servant Year members will live in an intentional Christian community. Theological education and spiritual formation are essential parts of Servant Year; the program includes frequent guest speakers and four retreats per year.

The Johnson Intern Program
The Johnson Intern Program integrates a 10-month Americorps work experience with an intentional devotional to social justice, personal spiritual development, and community life. The sponsoring parish, The Chapel of the Cross, is located in close proximity to the University of North Carolina campus. The Johnson Intern Program is a servant leadership training opportunity for your adults; and supports the development of community and church leaders capable of understanding the complexities of social and institutional reform. The program provides an opportunity for these young adult leaders to experience the inner and outward journey of the Christian tradition.

Trinity Volunteer Corps provides five young adults with a yearlong opportunity to live together in intentional Christian Community while working full-time for local social service agencies in the greater Washington, DC area.

Young Adult Interns (PCUSA)
This leadership development program provides young adults with the opportunity to experience the expression of mission at the General Assembly level of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Young adults who are 20 to 35 years of age are eligible. See information provided on each opportunity for specific requirements.

Young Adult Service Corps
YASC is focused discernment. The Episcopal Church, in a rededicated commitment to young adults, wants to facilitate this discernment process as best it can. This first of all means that funding of YASC volunteers is partially underwritten by the church, making the service year a mutual enterprise, with the volunteer, his/her sending community, his/her host community, and the Missions Office all contributing.

Young Adult Volunteers (PCUSA)
Young Adult Volunteers serve in communities of need developing community life and meeting regularly for prayer and Bible study at sites in the United States and internationally. Young adults (19 to 30 years of age) volunteer for one year of service. Although specific activities and information is particular to each unique site, all volunteers will receive on-site orientation, work closely with mentors in the program, and have an opportunity to integrate the experience at an end-of-term conference. Partial payment of outstanding student loans is available for qualified applicants. Funding may be shared by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), you, and your congregation.
